Supreme Technology

We are proud of the technology we design, develop and enhance every day. We strongly believe that our customers appreciate quality products with a strong technology. That's why we invest more in R&D than most of our colleagues in this market. That is also why Clavister Security Gateways do not have an underlying operating system, not even a Linux or BSD base, which is the case for most other security gateway products. Instead, we chose to equip Clavister Security Gateways with Clavister CorePlus, which is our own proprietary "bare-metal" firmware. Designed, developed and maintained out of Sweden. There are many benefits of not having an underlying operating system:

    • Patch Management - In many other products, the underlying operating system has a very large footprint (one dominant colleague in the industry has a footprint of more than 10 gigabytes) which are made up of features and functions which do not have anything to do with the security function. Nonetheless, the operating system needs recurring updates even if the patches do not have anything to do with the security itself. Equally often these patches require restarts and reboots.

With Clavister CorePlus, there is one single image to manage, and it is updated only when new security functionality is introduced or defects have been corrected.
    • Invisible Attack Surface - With a traditional operating system, you are commonly exposing a large and diversified attack surface, where several components from various vendors open up the system to various attack possibilities. Keeping up with security hotfixes and watching out for new vulnerability posts can keep the most toughened administrator awake at night.

With Clavister CorePlus, the entire software originates from one source, one vendor, one partner to hold liable. The firmware is introvert in that it exposes nothing of importance or interest for a potential attacker.

At the end of the day, the result of having a bulky operating system to run a security gateway is less predictable with regards to administration, quality, un-necessary maintenance and a high risk of security breach. Size does matter! Now, please proceed and read up on how we address security management.
